2014 Bekkers Syrah
Posted on 16 August 2016.
When you stump up $110 for a Shiraz, you’d rightfully expect a bit of a show. In contrast to that, I met Toby Bekkers a short while ago, and he seemed a considered, thoughtful and unassuming fellow.
Blue and black fruits, roast hazelnuts, plenty of spice, aniseed and chocolate cream oak. Full bodied, lush delivery of spicy and earthy black fruit, grainy tannin, cool but slightly tangy acidity, and a warm breathy finish of fine length, with a trail of tannin firming it up. Looks very convincing given time in the glass, so suggest parking this wine for at least a few years.
